TEN WAYS TO UPDATE YOUR HOME FOR SUMMER
Has that time come around again when your house has started to closely resemble the features of a sauna? While the sunshine invariably improves our mood and reduces our clothing, it also has an effect on how we behave in our home and choose to live. Goodbye to stuffy thick duvets and hello to a good few weeks of garden loving. At W.A.Green we truly embrace the extra boost of Vitamin D but how will we survive London transport without the luxury of air conditioning?!
Thankfully, there are a few things you can do to ease your home into the hotter weather and maintain an easy breezy style. Here’s ten ways to update your home for Summer, while it lasts in any case.
1 Make like California
We may not have the luxury of palm trees and deserts in the U.K., but we can certainly replicate a good ol’ Cali vibe with the helping hand of some botanicals - plants geared up for hotter weather such as Cacti work a treat. If you’re not green-fingered than our selection of faux plants will help to bring the Californian aesthetic to your abode. Californians like to keep it fresh so always think clean and go for white, pink and green combinations. Just like our shop!
2 Mix and match
Summer is all about experimenting and stepping out of your comfort zone. God knows that you’ve forgotten 90% of those holiday romances. Clash patterns and colours to create areas of interests and invest in changeable items such as cushions and dinnerware with prints. Make sure that your shelfie is as eclectic as it can be.
3 Get on the green AND the brights
We think that plants are a great addition whatever the weather, but now that the sun is here you can be daring and add a little bit more bloom to your bedroom, or bathroom, or any other room for that matter. Keep it peony season forever with our faux pink peonies or add a vibrant hit of blue with our Hydrangea stems.
4 Go Alfresco
Eating outside is always a real treat so make the most of it and ensure your outdoor dining game is on. Check out our outdoor necessities for a little bit of inspirations, and a whole lot of al-fresco glam. This tableware is just screaming for you to invite your pals around for a BBQ.
5 Choose natural materials
Rattan has been big for a while now, as have weavings, and these pleces really make you want to raise a glass to summer. Bring a tropical vibe to your home while also adding texture with a hand woven seagrass wall hanging - perfect for behind the bed - or store your wares in these naturally-coloured seagrass and cotton baskets.
6 Bring the outside in EVEN MORE
Why keep your outdoor furniture to the outdoors? That’s no fun. Bring the outdoors in and add those natural textures to your interiors. There’s nothing stopping you from having that macrame twisted cotton swing seat in your bathroom and these plant pots by Darkroom look just as good indoors as out. Just leave the paddling pool in the garden, please..
7 Add a bar cart
With cocktails in mind, it might be time to give your drinks cabinet a clear-out, or to buy a whole new bar cart as a mid-year treat instead. Stock up on some essential mixers, such as cranberry juice, lemonade, tonic and soda water and ginger ale and treat yourself to a little party for one. We think this hanging chair is just asking to be swung in with a Mimosa.
8 Perfect that summer scent
A fresh summer scent can take you away to another places that you’ve never been before, or maybe, they can just remind you of that summer holiday last year… Anya Hindmarch’s amazing new candles come in sun lotion, cherry lip balm and washing powder scents - just the ticket to remind you of those times in the sunshine, minus the sunburn.
9 Freshen up your fabrics
Stow away those velvet and thick fabric combinations for you’re not going to want anything to touch you. Silk cushions keep the place light, bright and airy. Silken Favours brings a wonderfully tropical vibe to any abode. The only problem is - which one to choose?
10 Get your styling hat on
Why just spring-clean when you can have a summer clear-out too? Getting rid of clutter and any unwanted items is great for the soul; don’t just settle for once a year. Once you’ve got rid of the extras in your life, get styling. Reshuffle your shelves, colour coordinate your books, buy new hangers for your clothes. All of these things will help you to up-level and feel better in yourself.
