VINTAGE WALL HANGING | 1975
Vintage suzani from the late Soviet Era, 1970-1980. Originating from Uzbekistan which was heavily influenced by it's Russian occupation. Beautiful embroidery created by artisanal kolkhozes (collective farms) or sewn individually at home to commemorate special events and holidays.
This statement embroidery is dated 1975 and features a bold design of flowers surrounding a single folk art bird. The oriental patterns and stylised purple and red flower motifs are typical of this period.
Charming example of original traditional folk art wall hanging with hanging loops.
W.A.Green says "Owning one of these precious folk art wall hangings is like owning a piece of history. The bold colour choices show a real love of life and sense of self".
