Vintage suzani from the late Soviet Era, 1970-1980. Originating from Uzbekistan and heavily influenced by it's Russian occupation. Beautiful embroidery created by artisanal kolkhozes (collective farms) or individually at home to commemorate special events and holidays.
Breaking all the rules of Islamic art regarding the use of animals as a subject. This beautiful hand embroidered wall hanging depicts a mother and baby deer surrounded by bold and beautiful floral motifs and intricate detailing including a lace and tasseled trim.
